WHAT IS BREATH THERAPY?
Breath therapy is a healing practice that uses conscious controlled breathing techniques to improve physical, emotional, and mental well-being. It is based on the principle that how we breathe directly affects our nervous system, stress response, and emotional state. It utilizes conscious connected breathing, a circular breathing pattern without pauses between inhales and exhales. This rhythmic and intentional breathing pattern helps to shift the individual into an altered state of consciousness much like hypnosis, which can lead to deep self-exploration and healing. Many people develop shallow or irregular breathing patterns due to stress or trauma, and breath therapy aims to retrain the breath to promote balance and healing.
“ It has been known for centuries that it is possible to induce profound changes of consciousness by techniques which involve breathing. The procedures that have been used for this purpose by ancient and non-Western cultures cover a very wide range from drastic interferences with breathing to subtle and sophisticated exercises of various spiritual traditions.” - Stanislav Grof, PhD.
